Lot 1037
KUSHANO-SASANIANS. Peroz, King of the Kidarites, circa 345-350. AE (Bronze, 15 mm, 1.09 g, 3 h), issued by the Kidarite ruler Peroz in the name of Bahram Kushanshah. Gandhara, probably Peshawar. Draped and bearded bust of Peroz to right, wearing flat crown surmounted by two ram's horns and a lotus bud; to right, 'BAHRAM' in Pahlawi. Rev. 'BWLZAWNDY YZDTY' ('Exalted God', in Pahlawi) Exalted God emerges from fire altar, holding wreath in his right hand and long scepter in his left. ANS Kushan 2417. Very rare. A beautiful example with attractive earthen highlights. Good very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

This interesting transition issue was struck by Peroz, an early Kidarite ruler, in the name of Bahram, the last of the Kushano-Sasanian kings. It can be distinguished from the issues of Bahram by the ram's horns on the crown, a distinctively Hunnic feature.
